Impossible Dream

Yume No Chikara.

Roughly translated, The Power Of Dreams.
You see, in Japanese you don’t say have a dream. You say see a dream.
Because what’s the point on having dreams if you’re not going to make some happen?”.

The Cube

2007-04-22

“I saw The Cube a couple of times as a kid. But I really don’t remember when. For my entire life it seemed like a dream.

The Cube is about the existential dilemma faced by a man who suddenly finds himself trapped inside an 8 foot by 8 foot cube.

…On another layer, TV itself is The Cube.
It presents us with attention deficit clich`s which offer no insights or answers – just entertainment.
It teases us with familiarity and humor, but ultimately leaves us feeling empty and trapped.”.

Snapcity

2007-04-16

“My name is Emilie. I am a photographer.
Every week I shot somewhere in San Francisco. I focused on places that I love.”.

“San Francisco is changing pretty fast.
Everyone’s heard about the dotcom invasion, sky-high rents, loss of artists space, etc. but it’s also changed in ways that are harder to describe.
It’s probably a direct result of these other changes, but good things are disappearing.
For me, some of those good things are people.”.

Fallacies

2007-03-29

“These pages provide information about a variety of informal fallacies.
Put roughly, a fallacy is a mistake in reasoning.”.
(Michael C. LaBossiere)
For example:

Appeal to Common Practice

“If what is moral is determined by what is commonly practiced, then this argument:

  • Most people do X.
  • Therefore X is morally correct.

would not be a fallacy. This would however entail some odd results.

For example, imagine that there are only 100 people on earth.
60 of them do not steal or cheat and 40 do.
At this time, stealing and cheating would be wrong.

The next day, a natural disaster kills 30 of the 60 people who do not cheat or steal.
Now it is morally correct to cheat and steal.

Thus, it would be possible to change the moral order of the world to one’s view simply by eliminating those who disagree.”.
